The cab of the Mercedes 2628A (6 × 6) 10,000 kg truck has seating for the driver and two passengers. The centre seat has a folding backrest to allow clear access to the roof-mounted hatch, which is provided with a rail grip. A medium length cab was available which had extra space for crew equipment while a crew-type cab had space for up to seven occupants. The cab type can be tilted forward for engine access to an angle of 65°. For normal day-to-day maintenance, access flaps are provided. Behind the cab there is spare wheel stowage and on the front of the cab the headlights and radiator grille are protected by heavy-duty tubular guards.All the undersides and major drive components are fully waterproofed for a fording depth of 1 m without preparation and the air intake pipe is routed upwards over the cab roof side. The load area has 500 mm high drop sides and tailgate, and is provided with lash-down points and a canvas tilt.
A towing hook for trailers or artillery is provided at the rear. Optional equipment included a hydraulic 10,000 kg winch with cable control to the front or rear; the standard single-tyred version was available with a central tyre inflation (CTI) system as an optional extra.Various box and cab bodies were produced, and the model was suitable for use as a tanker, fire tender or command and communication vehicle.
